Rest In Peace

Reflections on a time long gone

David James Dec 22, 2011

I didn't know Agatha well, as I was just a kid.
But as we look back over our lives, we realise that certain people did instil in us a sense of just behaviour through their interactions with us.
Agatha treated us kids as human beings, individuals on our own path.
She didn''t play mind games, and she was forthright and truthful
And truth wins every time

Thank you Walter for allowing us to commemorate this wonderful woman's life

My mother

Hermine de Jong Clouser Jul 10, 2011

I had the blessing of a wonderful Mother for the duration of my 63 years. Like my mother, most of whose relatives lived in The Netherlands I spent my adult years separated from her by an ocean, mostly the Pacific, but also Bass Strait when we lived in Hobart in the eighties. Especially after Mum's retirement from teaching, she traveled to see our growing family in Pennsylvania, U.S.A. In raising her own family of four, Mum had in my father, Cornelis Antonie de Jong, an able partner and companion. Mum and Dad, having served as teachers in Dutch East Indies (Indonesia), taken as POWs for four years, then established their young family (I was three and Art was in utero) in Corrimal, N.S.W. Both acquired Australian teaching credentials. Mum taught in the Corrimal area, Panania, Lugarno and the Nowra area, eventually retiring with Dad at the beloved spot overlooking Narrawallee Beach near Ulladulla, in the early seventies. My brother Walter has established a web site of photos and memories at http://users.tpg.com.au/dejong58/genealogy/agatha.htm.

I will cherish our last day spent together, playing up word and doing the nine letter words, forever. I love you xxx
