About

Tribute to a Mother and Wife

Corryn Rayney seemingly had it all.

A successful career, a loving family that included two teenage daughters and a wide circle of friends whose numbers included senior members of WA's legal fraternity.

The 44-year-old Como woman's high profile job, which saw her perform duties similar to those conducted by a judge, earned her more than $200,000 a year.

It was a job that required her to be highly skilled, highly educated and highly organised.

For those reasons alone, alarm bells started ringing for police when Mrs Rayney failed to return home from her weekly bootscooting class at the Bentley Community Centre.

Why would a woman who displayed the professional characteristics required by someone of her standing in the legal community, let alone a mother-of-two who seemingly had it all, simply vanish without a trace?

What went wrong from the time she left her bootscooting class to the time she was buried by her killer in a makeshift grave at Kings Park?

What drove her into the hands of her killer?

At her funeral on September 1, Mrs Rayney's daughters Caitlyn and Sarah spoke with pride and love for their mother.

"Thank you Lord for giving me the best Mum in the world," 13-year-old Caitlyn said. "She was not only my Mum, she was my best friend.

"It takes someone special to juggle so many things the way she did.

Her 10-year-old sister Sarah added: "Thank you Lord for giving me a mum who has always been there for me. She never let me down. Thank you for the special times we had together."

Mrs Rayney's husband, prominent Perth lawyer Lloyd Rayney, broke down during the funeral as he told mourners it was love at first sight when he met Corryn. 24

She was an articled clerk and he confessed to thinking up any excuse to go past her office to get another glimpse of her.

About 500 mourners from Canada, Britain, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth packed Bull Creek's Westminster Presbyterian Church on Saturday.

"Corryn had a real presence," Mr Rayney said. "I have known and loved Corryn for 20 years.

"Corryn has been stolen from us in her prime. No words can express the horror of what has happened."

Mr Rayney paused to wipe away tears after telling mourners: "To know Corryn was to love her."
