Great Memories of Mother/Nan

Lynette Driver Jan 08, 2010

We have great memories of Nan/Mother Elizabeth. Growing up in the big old Colonial house perched right on beautiful Moreton Bay at Queens Beach, Redcliffe, Queensland. Growing up with her, watching her do paintings, walking along the beach with her: going to the church and sewing with her, all made up our family routine. We enjoyed a wonderful life at "Queenwood".
Daughter Kimbel von Gneisenau.

Family Life

Lynette Driver Dec 30, 2009

Betty recalled a two storey house on a hill where she lived possibly with grandparents. Perhaps 1 John Street Hobart, where she was born. She loved the luxury of having a bath in a big bath tub set before the fireplace in the living room on Saturdays. Fondly recalls her clever Mother showing her how to make a necklace from daisies as they sat in a park. Of going fruit picking with her family. Of getting her pet "pigface" dog's hair on her clothes as she carried it home, sobbing as it had died in an accident, & a neighbour coming to help. The family had to come to Sydney for the warmer weather as her Mum was ill & she recalls the cliffs as they disembarked in Sydney. Her Mum died of TB. She and brother Mick had to go to an orphanage when she was 10 years old. "It must have been worse for Mick as he was younger" she'd say in her stoic way of the heartbreak of being separated from both parents at once.

My memory

aherzsprung Dec 24, 2009

I am sorry to say, I have only known Betty Hann indirectly. Yes, I have never met her, but then she became as dear to me as my own mom.

I have been friends with her daughter Lyn for more than 30 years. Even there are continents between us, we stayed together as friends and prayer partners. Lyn had laid her mom onto my heart. Our prayers were answered when after years of opposition Betty was able to be cared for by Lyn in Lyn's home. For the last 21 months she had 24/7 dedicated one-on-one care, before she passed away in Lyn's arms.

After years of praying for her, Betty Hann became very dear to me. She had a joyful nature, very thankful and without complaints. She has been very patient and indulgent, because she trusted in the Lord, her stronghold and tower. She knew the Lord will interfere at his time: "My times are in your hands", Psalm 31:15.

You will find her lovely thoughts expressed in her paintings. Let them touch and inspire you.
