Mourning the loss of Matthew

A man who died after a nightclub bashing was felled by a king hit before being given a soccer-style kick to the head, a court heard today.

Two men charged over the CBD assault outside the QBH nightclub that left 24-year-old Cranbourne man Matthew McEvoy dead have appeared briefly in court.

Andriyas Tello, 21, and Laurn Sako, 18, appeared in Melbourne Magistrates' Court charged with intentionally and recklessly causing serious injury to Mr McEvoy.

Sen-Det Leigh Balthazaar said Mr McEvoy was drinking with his cousin in a fenced off smoking section of the Queensbridge Hotel early yesterday morning when an argument broke out.

The court heard the reason for the argument was currently unknown but could have been a result of an earlier incident inside the nightclub.

Sen-Det Balthazaar said while Mr McEvoy and his cousin were trying to fend off Mr Sako and two other men, Mr Tello approached from behind and punched Mr McEvoy to the right side of the face.

"Mr McEvoy didn't see Tello approach or the punch coming, in effect the original punch was a king hit," he said.

Sen-Det Balthazaar said a security guard tried to intervene and separate the groups but Tello again punched Mr McEvoy in the face without warning.

Mr McEvoy fell to the ground where Mr Sako is alleged to have given him a "soccer-style" kick to the head.

The court heard Mr McEvoy was unconscious and stopped breathing at the nightclub before dying in hospital last night.

Magistrate Peter Couzens adjourned a bail application by Mr Sako until Wednesday so an autopsy could be carried out and police have time to decide whether to upgrade charges against the pair.

Mr Tello and Mr Sako, both of Roxburgh Park, have been remanded in custody.

You'll never be forgotten

We went to primary school and high school together, yet even after high school we continued to bump into one another. You Matty, are one person that touched the lives of so many people. Your unforgetable smile, your witty charm and your amazing ability to make people feel good when they where down.
You will never be forgotten Matty, even now after 1 1/2 years you still continue to make people smile.
Lots of love now and forever Xxx

Matthew, our little adopted brother who lived across the road from us, we can’t believe a year has gone past. Amelia asks about you often and we just remind her of the times you lay on the floor playing with her (You guys and her jumping castle) we won’t ever know the real story about that.
We miss your cheeky smile and your loving hug’s.
You are in our hearts everyday.

You probably wouldn't remember me, but you touched the lives of everyone you met, whether it be for a few moments or a lifetime. You are sorely missed and will never be forgotten.
RIP Matty. xxx
