My wife and I have loved watching McClintock staring John Wayne. I did not know much about Michael Pate but have come to love his work in McClintock and other movies he starred in. What an awesome actor he was. We still watch McClintock several times a week and enjoy watching "Ole Puma." His legacy continues to live on.
Growing up watching Matlock Police is my biggest memory of Michael. I always used to get a buzz with the shot of him getting out of the squad car and profiling himself during the opening theme. See my MySpace page at www.myspace.com/denemayfield where I have a clip of this. He was as good as any Hollywood actor I can think of. Still missed. RIP.

Sad to hear about the passing of you father, Chris. He as a very talented man.
I'm trying to reach you - perhaps you remember me from years ago when you were staying with your grandpa Joe Rock in Beverly Hills. I was his neighbor - Micheal Goodrow - former actor and about to be reborn as one again. You can facebook me if you see this message.
I met him when I was a child, while attending Ridgewood Military Academy in Woodland Hills CA. I was a friend of his son Chris and was introduced to him at an open house. I was only 10 at the time, but he created a lasting impression on me with his ability to make me feel special. I am sorry for your loss Chris.
I saw him numerous times in movies and on TV. Wonderful actor. He seemed like such a gentle man, and had a kind face and smiling eyes. I always liked the inner man that showed through every character he played.
An Outstanding actor who should have received more credit! He performed opposite John Wayne, Chuck Heston, Clint Walker, and so many others. One of the best portrayals of the Native American in so many westerns for both television and the movies. R.I.P. Michael! You were truely "One of a Kind"
I remembered him playing a Indian as a child. But I loved him best in Matlock police. I used to live near Lilydale and saw some filming of the shows when I was a teenager. Even now I set my alarm for 2.30 Tuesday mornings to watch Matlock on Win televison. I love it, takes me back ,Michael made the show. Even though I never had the honnor of meeting him it brought tears to my eyes when I heard of his passing.
