Shannon, 22, died after he was king-hit out the front of the Southbank nightspot in the early hours of May 27 last year.

Mr McCormack told the Herald Sun earlier this year violence in the city was out of control and called for extra police, security guards, surveillance cameras and training.

"You can't walk up King St at night without someone wanting to hit you," Bill said.

"The least these security guards could do is a first aid course," he said.

"Then they would learn how to save a life."
